Fabio Fognini will make another attempt to finally break into the round of 16 of the Wimbledon Open when he takes on fellow ATP Tour veteran Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain in the third round of the gentlemen’s singles tourney at the 2024 Wimbledon Open. Fognini pulled off a major upset this week after rocking the world’s No.8 Casper Ruud of Norway 6-4 7-5 6-7(1) 6-3. The Italian scored 68 of his 152 points off his first serves while securing five breakpoints in the match. The win over Ruud sent Fognini to his seventh, third-round appearance at Wimbledon. A win over Agut shall take the Italian vet to the round of 16 of this grass-court Grand Slam for the first time. Bautista Agut is a former Wimbledon Open semifinalist, having reached the final four stage in 2019. Bautista Agut defeated Lorenzo Sonego of Italy 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-4 in the second round to set up his 13th head-to-head showdown with Fognini in the third round of the Wimbledon Open.
