Reilly Opelka of the United States will try to serve his way to the round of 16 of the 2025 Miami Open, facing Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic on Monday.
Opelka caught a big fish on Saturday, scoring an upset Indian Wells Open runner-up 4-6 6-3 7-6(5) in the second round. After drilling 15 aces in a 6-3 7-6(4) win over Christoper Eubanks 6-3 7-6(4), Opelka bombarded Rune with 21 aces while winning 48 points off his first serves. Despite Opelka’s dominance at the serve, Rune stayed competitive throughout, conceding only one serve break to force a tiebreaker in the third set.
Machac also survived a three-set slugfest, edging Matteo Arnaldi 6-2 1-6 6-3. The Czech won 68 percent of his serves and broke the Italian three times, including a crucial service break in the second game of the third set that allowed him to secure a pivotal 2-0 lead and a hold. Machac improved his record to 13-5, winning three of his last five four matches.
