Of all the outdoor hard courts on tour, this is one of the fastest, which means that a big server like Riley Opelka could be handsomely rewarded. We saw the big man hit plenty of aces in Newport last week, but we also saw him get that first serve wrong on plenty of occasions, while he hasn't played competitively on hard courts in 2024, which shouldn't be ignored. In contrast, earlier this season, we Aleksandar Kovacevic play some excellent tennis on this surface, beating several players ranked in the top 100. Moreover, both players lost to Michelsen at the event in Newport last week, but it was Kovacevic who got much more competitive against that opponent.
To be honest, I think the relatively short odds available on the Opelka win are an overreaction to what happened in Newport last week. Opelka struggles hugely in terms of consistency, while his form when he was last playing on a hard surface was far from menacing. All in all, don't be surprised if Kovacevic gets the win here.
