A day after shocking Jessica Pegula 6-3 7-5, Wang displayed nerves of steel to hack out a 4-6 7-5 7-6(6) win over Ekaterina Alexandrova. Behind 44 points on her first serves and five breakpoints, Wang managed to climb back from a set down, emerging as the winner of the top of two nerve-racking tiebreakers to seal the victory.
