Zheng, the 2024 Australian Open and WTA Finals finalist, put an end to a three-match slump with a decisive win over former Grand Slam winner Victoria Azarenka 6-3 6-4 in the second round. Zheng captured 24 points off her first serves while converting six breakpoint chances to secure the win, advancing to the third round of this tournament for the first time in her career. Sun bagged her second straight win after blowing past Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic 6-1 6-4 on Friday. Sun held all her serves, scoring 20 points both on her first and second serves to demolish the Czech in 17 games. Sitting at No.49 in the world rankings, the Kiwi opened as the underdog against the world’s No.9 player, Qinwen Zheng.

Qinwen Zheng is a solid pick to win outright, but I am riding with Lulu Sun to cover the spread at -5.5 games. Again, Zheng’s victory over Azarenka snapped a three-match losing streak, which is definitely a huge boost for her confidence. However, I am still not quite sure if she has really shaken off her early-season woes that led to poor results in Melbourne, Qatar, and Dubai. On the other hand, Lulu Sun has nothing to lose in this match. I believe that underdog mentality played an important factor in Sun’s first victory over Zheng at the Wimbledon Open last year. Although eventually Zheng will avenge her previous loss to the Kiwi, Sun will give the Chinese a good fight, making her earn every point in this match.
