Qinwen Zheng of China will vie for her second consecutive final appearance on Saturday as she takes on the hard-hitting Diana Shnaider of Russia in the semifinal. Zheng booked her third semifinal in the Asian swing of the WTA Tour after outlasting Leylah Fernandez of Canada 6-0 1-6 6-3 in three sets. The Chinese posted 29 winners and seized five breakpoints, including the point that helped her take a pivotal 3-0 lead over Fernandez in the deciding set. Shnaider leaped onto the semifinal round after being the beneficiary of a walkover by Sayaka Isshi in the quarterfinal. The Russian earlier defeated Viktoriya Tomova of Hungary 6-2 6-2 to reach the final eight in Osaka. Shnaider is hungry for a better finish in this tournament after crashing out in the first round at Wuhan and Ningbo.

Qinwen Zheng is a strong pick to win her first meeting with Diana Shnaider, though I feel Shnaider will compete till the last point. Zheng will march into the semifinal with a terrific 29-10 record on hard courts while Shnaider is a solid 26-14 on the surface. Zheng has also won 10 of her last 12 matches whereas Shnaider has compiled a 5-4 slate since reaching the round-of-16 of the 2024 US Open.
