The Purdue Boilermakers (34-4 SU, 22-15-1 ATS) face the Connecticut Huskies (36-3 SU, 27-12 ATS) for the national championship of college basketball. The Huskies are trying to become the first team to win consecutive national titles since 2007, when Florida completed the feat. And for the past month, the Huskies have looked every bit the part of a national champion.
But in Purdue, they might have met their match. The Boilermakers have the height to deal with Connecticut’s Donovan Clingan inside in two-time player of the year Zach Edey, and they have shooters to draw attention away from the inside. Purdue also has yet to lose a game outside of the Big Ten in 2023-24 and has looked just as dominant as Connecticut during the tournament. This game has the makings of a classic.

Both teams have very few weaknesses, but one of the biggest is Connecticut’s struggles from behind the arc. The Huskies rank 79th nationally in shooting the 3-pointer, while Purdue ranks second in the country. Connecticut usually relies on its outstanding 3-point defense to stop teams from beating it on the arc, but with Edey in the low post, that might not work this time.
The Huskies will either have to counter with Clingan’s inside scoring ability or make some 3-pointers of their own. Purdue doesn’t force a lot of turnovers, but the Boilers are outstanding at forcing opponents into bad shots. Connecticut should be used to that because it plays the same way. The Huskies also have to find some answer for Edey that doesn’t result in a Purdue parade to the line. That’s a challenge nobody in college basketball has figured out, and that doesn’t look likely to change. Our prediction for Purdue vs. Connecticut is Purdue to win.
