Tigres and Pumas face off in Sunday's Liga MX action, both in the playoff zone, with 10 points or more and with 5 games played.

Pumas drew their group in the Leagues Cup, and advanced in the first knockout phase against Whitecaps by beating them 0-2, but they would fall in the next round thrashed 4-0 at the hands of the Seattle Sounders, after twelve days of that elimination in their return to Mexico and re-entry to Liga MX Pumas lost against Atlas, that game took a turn against Pumas when in the 9th minute Huerta missed a penalty and in the 25th Gonzalez scored an own goal.

Tigres also reached the same phase of the Leagues Cup as Pumas, but Tigres won their group by defeating the champion of the first edition, Inter Miami. Tigres, in their return to Mexico against Chivas also missed a penalty that could have put them ahead, they went down but with a goal from Gignac they tied the game.

The last two matches between Pumas and Tigres resulted in draws with goals.
