The Netherlands and Poland will play the opening match of the Group D Euro 2024 Championship on Sunday at the Volksparkstadion. Both teams will come into this matchup looking to take early control of the group that also features France and Austria. The Orange will be guided in this campaign by the experienced Ronald Koeman who has promised the fans a new and entertaining style of play. They must beat a resurgent Polish side that has managed to turn things around after a turbulent World Cup campaign in Qatar. Poland will be happy with the underdog status in this group, which relieves some pressure to qualify for the knockout stages.

Poland - Netherlands: Form Analysis
Poland had a less impressive qualification campaign after finishing third in Group E behind the Czech Republic and Albania. In the semis and finals, they defeated Estonia 5-1 and Wales (on penalties) to book their ticket to Germany. The appointment of Fernando Santos as the new head coach seems to have restored belief in the camp after a disastrous World Cup campaign. Poland enters this campaign after two international friendly wins against Turkey and Ukraine.
The Dutch also endured a nervy qualification. They secured a ticker to Germany after a hard-fought 1-0 win against the Republic of Ireland. Despite that, the Orange are the in-form team in this matchup after winning six of their last seven matches. Their attack has also been in blistering form, scoring nine goals in their previous three friendlies. They scored four goals each against Iceland and Canada while conceding none in those matches.

Poland & Netherlands Squad Analysis
Poland has a few star names in their squad, led by Robert Lewandowski. He has been the Polish marksman since 2008, making 150 appearances and scoring 82 goals. However, Lewandowski will miss the Netherlands clash with a muscle injury. In his absence, head coach Probierz will look to Adam Buksa and Krzysztof Pietek to lead the line. 19-year-old Kacper Urbanski could make a surprise start in the attacking midfield position. At the back, Yakub Kiwior has been excellent for Arsenal in the Premier League, and he's sure to feature in the opening encounter.
The Netherlands also arrived at the Euros with some injury concerns. Barcelona midfielder Frankie de Jong is out of the tournament with a persistent ankle injury. Midfielder Teun Koopmeiners is also out with a groin injury. Ronald Koeman has since called up only one replacement in left-back Ian Matsen. He said he didn't want to tamper with the team dynamics by calling up new names. The highly dependable Liverpool midfielder Virgil van Dijk will captain the side as they seek to continue their impressive defensive record.
