The Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates tussle up for Game 2 of their series at Great American Ball Park on Saturday.
The Reds have won three of their last four games, showcasing terrific pitching in their two shutout wins versus the San Francisco Giants and gritty 5-3 win over the Pirates in Game 1. Cincinnati holds the 6th best ERA in baseball at 3.14 with league-high seven quality starts.
The Pirates are supposed to be among the best pitching teams this season because of their vaunted starting rotation led by second-year phenom Paul Skenes. Instead, Pittsburgh has the 11th worst ERA (4.31) and allowed opposing teams to bat a mediocre .245 BA. The Pirates place in the bottom of NL Central Division standings with a 5-9 record.

Prediction: Pittsburgh tied the series at 1-1. Starter Andrew Heaney pitched deep again for another strong outing.
Heaney starting on Saturday is a welcome development for the Pirates, who need more quality pitching from their starting rotation. Heaney steps into the mound against the Reds with a 1.50 ERA over 16 innings pitched. Heaney will also attempt to build on his fantastic performance against the Yankees on April 6, in which he took a one-run-ball into the seventh inning of a 5-4 win. Reds will introduce the newest starting rotation member on Saturday, 25-year-old rookie Andre Abbott. Cincinnati hopes Abbott will add more firepower to an already formidable starting rotation. But despite the hype surrounding Abbott, I don’t expect him to outduel Heaney or pitch more than four innings in his first MLB start.
