Philadelphia Union (5-9-10, 24 points) host Nashville SC (6-8-10, 26 points) with both teams just three points out of the Eastern Conference’s final playoff spot. Philadelphia has had no problems putting the ball in the back of the net, but its defense has been severely lacking. However, part of that has been because the Union have spent the past three months playing without goalkeeper Andre Blake.
Blake is one of the best keepers in MLS history, and he’s set to return for this match. And that’s bad news for a Nashville side that’s really struggled to create opportunities for itself. The Six Strings have scored no more than one goal in eight of their past nine matches, and they’ve gotten blanked in three of their past six road matches. Nashville has also never played well against Philadelphia, failing to win in any of the past eight meetings.

The Union should have gotten something out of their match with Toronto before a bad bounce turned the match on its head, but they followed that up by unloading on New England at home. The five-goal outburst was the most the Union have scored all season and got Philadelphia off the bottom of the table.
With Blake making his return, the Philadelphia defense might finally have what it’s been missing all season. The Union didn’t suddenly become bad overnight, and a top keeper like Blake is often the difference between a playoff season and a year at the bottom of the table.
