The Phillies tap Christoper Sanchez to start in Saturday’s Game 2. Despite giving up four earned runs in his last start, the lefty has led the Phillies to a victory in his last five starts. Sanchez’s last start vs. the Cardinals took place in August 25, 2023, wherein he stifled St. Louis to only two runs through 6.0 innings. The Cardinals, scoring 4.7 runs against left-handed pitchers this season, will start Mike Mikolas (2-3, 6.00 ERA). I am a bit concerned about Mikolas’ start this Saturday since he just gave up 8 earned runs in a 7-18 loss to the Cardinals last April 6. It’s rare to see pitchers pulling off a quick turnaround following a devastating stint on the mound. Philadelphia might be struggling at the plate of late, but they cannot be allowed to get into their flow early because they are still a very deep team with plenty of firepower in their arsenal.
