Navarro has now taken the baton from Gauff as USA’s brightest hope of keeping the women’s singles title at the US Open championships stateside following her sensational 6-3 4-6 6-3 win over the world’s No.2 on Sunday at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Navarro scored 100 points in the match, winning 67 percent of her first and 66 percent of her second serves. She also broke Gauff four times while keeping her unforced errors to 36, almost half of Gauff’s 66 unforced miscues in the match. Badosa will walk into her quarterfinal showdown with Navarro in tip-top form, having dropped just one set in four games. Badosa needed just under an hour to demolish Yafang Wang in their round-of-16 face-off on Sunday. The Spaniard dominated her first serves (70 percent win) and destroyed Wang’s services four times in the match.
