Arthur Fils of France will play clay-court savant Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain in the first-round of the 2025 Barcelona Open.
Fils has now reached the quarterfinal of every ATP 1000 tournament this year, pushing him to career high world’s No.14 in the latest ATP ranking update. In Monaco, Fils came a little bit of short of pulling off a major upset on the reigning French Open winner Carlos Alcaraz, losing to the Spaniard in three sets 4-6 7-5 6-3. The Frenchman had also defeated No.7 seed and former Monte Carlo Masters winner Andrey Rublev 6-2 6-3 in the round of 16.
On the other hand, Carreno Busta decided to skip the Monte Carlo Masters to play at the Madrid Challenger, where he reached the quarterfinals before losing to Kamil Majchrzak 6-7(10) 6-4 6-1. Busta, who boasts a 66 percent win rate on the clay, has only won 5 of 9 matches on the red dirt so far this year for 55.6 percent win rate.
