Even without George Kirby out due to injury, the Mariners' starting rotation looks like one of the most complete in 2025. Already on Opening Day, it seems the trend of Seattle games continues in 2024, where the team hits little, the pitching keeps them close in games, and a home run ultimately helps them win. Such was the case on Opening Day against the Athletics, where Gilbert pitched a seven-inning gem, allowing only two hits and an ER via Soderstrom's home run.
Soderstrom impressed and was the highlight of the Athletics' run with two home runs. The 23-year-old first baseman personally drove in all of his team's runs in the 2-4 loss. He had finished with a strong September last year, where he had an 852 OPS with two home runs in 12 games before going out with a wrist injury.
Of course, and although they went 0-for-7 with four strikeouts combined on Thursday, Butler and Rooker bat first and second in the order and are two pieces that baseball fans will love and are faces of the Athletics in the team's new phase.
