On Friday, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New York Yankees duke it out in Game 1 of their three-game series at PNC Park.
The Pirates prevented a series sweep as starter Paul Skenes dominated through seven scoreless innings to power his team to a much-needed 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in Thursday’s finale. The win also snapped Pittsburgh's four-game skid, improving their record to 2-5.
The Yankees also denied the Arizona Diamondbacks from completing a sweep, coming through with a gritty 9-7 win on Thursday. Aaron Judge drove four runs, including a three-run blast that made him the third-fastest player in Yankees history to achieve 500 extra-base hits. The Yankees also got a homer each from Tristan Grisham and Jazz Chrisholm Jr., who extended the Yankees lead to 9-3 in the 4th inning.
