The Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees open another busy day around the MLB on Tuesday, playing in another matinee game under windy playing condition at Comerica Field.

The Tigers captured their fourth win in a row after stifling the Yankees in Monday’s series-opener, 6-2. Detroit once again leaned on their pitching to hook them out of murky situations. Casey Mize logged six solid innings, surrendering one earned run and four hits with six strikeouts. The Tigers seized an early 3-0 lead after Andrew Ibanez belted a three-run homer in the third inning.

The Yankees absorbed their second straight loss, though they still hold a half game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East with a 6-4 record. For two days in a row, New York’s multibillion dollar batting corps could not deliver the winning play in the most crucial moment. Cody Bellinger, Paul Goldschmidt, and Anthony Volpe went a combined for 3 for 12 at the plate, while Aaron Judge contributed an RBI single but he also batted 1-for-3 in the night.
