In order to start the second half in the best way, the Mets had to win game 2 against the Marlins, the second worst in the MLB, and they achieved it thanks to an exceptional outing by Severino where he finished with a line of 6.0 IP, with 7 K, and 3 BB. The Marlins recorded up to 13 strikeouts and even more worrying was that Chishlom, De la Cruz and Bell, the first three at bat for the Marlins, struck out 6 times. Rogers will be the starter for the Marlins and despite his 4.72 ERA and 1-9 record, manager Schumaker is optimistic about him after his last solid outing against the Reds, the manager said "He threw his fastball really well at the top. His changeup was really good. Kept the ball on the ground for the most part. He did enough for us to keep us in the game."

Rogers has yet to face the Mets in 2024, but in the two outings he had against them in 2023 he allowed 3 ER and 1 HR in each. Miami's offense is the weakest in the MLB, they are the 2nd worst in MLB in OBP, SLG and OPS. Furthermore, at this point in the season they only have 79 HRs as a team.
