New Jersey Devils vs Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction & Picks - NHL
by Dan Angell in NHL Picks
The New Jersey Devils (37-37-5 SU, 28-51 ATS) continue to limp toward the finish line as they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs (46-23-9 SU, 31-47 ATS) on the second half of a back-to-back series. The Devils looked listless in their loss to the Leafs on home ice, and they’ve basically looked like they were done since the calendar flipped to April. For the season’s final month, New Jersey has just one win and three points in five games.
The Maple Leafs seem to be heading in the opposite direction. Toronto doesn’t have enough time to catch Boston and win the Atlantic, but the Leafs could get a crucial seventh game at home if they can catch Florida. With the Panthers slumping, the Leafs sit just three points back of second place in the Atlantic. They come in as winners of six of seven, with five of them by multiple goals.

Our New Jersey Devils vs Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction
The Devils clearly look spent, and their penalty kill is a big reason why. New Jersey has killed off just 68% of its penalties over its past five games, and giving a team like Toronto extra chances to score is suicidal. New Jersey doesn’t have anything to play for and looks like it, having barely competed last time on home ice.
Moving to Toronto shouldn’t help anything. The Leafs are playing well right now and showing a tendency to go for the throat when they get a team down. Of Toronto’s past 10 wins, eight of them have been by at least two goals. The Leafs seem to know this is when they need to be at their best, and they shouldn’t have any trouble with a checked-out New Jersey. Our prediction for New Jersey vs. Toronto is Maple Leafs -1.5
