The US Open Grand Slam opens this week in New York, and in this first round, Frenchman Corentin Moutet takes on American local Sebastian Korda. Corentin Moutet took part in two hard-court tournaments this summer in preparation for his 7th appearance at the US Open. He entered the Cincinnati qualifiers after beating Daniel Atlmaier and Marton Fucsovics, but failed to progress beyond the first round, losing to world No. 49 Fabian Marozsan. His only victory came in the first round at Winston-Salem against Lucky Loser Nicolas Mejia, before he was stopped by Roman Safiullin in a 2-set match. 

For his part, Sebastian Korda, seeded 16th, has more than succeeded in his North American tour, stringing together a run of 9 consecutive victories. He won the title at the Washington tournament against Flavio Cobolli, then stopped top 15 member Taylor Fritz and top 5 member Alexander Zverev at the Montreal tournament to reach the semi-finals. There's no doubt that these recent victories augur well for a fine run in this last Grand Slam of the season.
