Monaco vs PSG Prediction & Picks - Ligue 1
by Tyler Doty | in Soccer Picks
Due to the scheduling of the Trophée des Champions at the beginning of January, this clash of the 16th day of Ligue 1 will be played this Wednesday at 3:00 pm EST. AS Monaco will welcome Paris Saint-Germain to the Stade Louis-II. For many weeks now, the PSG has been sitting on top of the French championship podium. AS Monaco is currently in 3rd place. At the moment, however, Adi Hütter's team are going through a rather complicated period. This is not the best way to prepare for this clash and hope to beat the odds.
PSG, for their part, remain at the top of Ligue 1. Last weekend, they consolidated their lead with a 3-1 win over OL. The club from the French capital now has a lead of almost 7 points over its 2 nearest rivals, including ASM. For their final league encounter of 2024, Luis Enrique's men will be hoping to pull out all the stops and claim another victory.

Monaco - PSG: Form Analysis
Beaten in their last 2 Champions League matches, against SL Benfica (2-3) and Arsenal (3-0), AS Monaco are not necessarily doing any better in Ligue 1. Admittedly, the principality's club are still in 3rd place in the standings and have the same number of points as OM (2nd). However, they have won just once in their last 3 matches. Last weekend, the team coached by Adi Hütter were held to a 0-0 draw at Stade de Reims. A few days later, the situation looks much more complicated.
PSG have just made a big impression by beating Lyon (3-1).
After bouncing back in the Champions League with an easy 0-3 win over Red Bull Salzburg, PSG also returned to winning ways in Ligue 2. Following 2 consecutive draws, against FC Nantes (1-1) and AJ Auxerre (0-0), the club from the French capital defeated OL last Sunday (3-1). Luis Enrique's men once again proved that they are unstoppable against the big boys of Ligue 1. They now sit comfortably at the top of the table, 7 points clear of their nearest 2 rivals.

Monaco & PSG Squad Analysis
AS Monaco won't have a full squad for this Ligue 1 clash. Folarin Balogun is still injured, while Jordan Teze is suspended for the PSG match. Radoslaw Majecki, Denis Zakaria and Krépin Diatta are also doubtful. There are, however, a few talents to keep a close eye on in the Monegasque squad. It's hard not to mention Eliesse Ben Seghir. The 19-year-old has scored 5 goals and provided 3 assists in all competitions. Maghnes Akliouche, just as valuable to the Principality club, will also be the focus of attention in this match.
Bradley Barcola only played 30 minutes in PSG's last match. He could be back in the starting line-up for this clash.
As far as PSG are concerned, there's not a single absentee left. Lucas Hernandez has come on for the last 2 games. Suspended from the Champions League, Ousmane Dembélé was back on the pitch last weekend. And he was prolific, scoring against Lyon. For his part, Bradley Barcola didn't start the match over the weekend, and only came on at the end. The young French talent was able to take a breather and should be back in the starting 11 for this latest Ligue 1 clash.

PSG have managed to get back on track. They have won their last 2 matches in all competitions. The club from the French capital also wants to take this opportunity to send a message to AS Monaco, before meeting them again in a few weeks' time for the Champions Trophy.
