La Liga leaders Barcelona begin their Champions Leauge campaign with a tricky looking trip to Monaco. Sunday's 1-4 victory at Girona means the Catalan giants have five wins from their opening five games, and a four point lead at the top of the La Liga table. But, despite their hugely impressive domestic start, doubts still persist over whether Barca have the overall quality to make a deep run in Europe's premier club competition. As for Monaco, they are also unbeaten domestically this season, winning three and drawing one of their opening four fixtures. After a fine 2nd-place finish in Ligue 1 last season, AS Monaco are off to a flying start. Adi Hütter's team took 10 points from their first 4 Ligue 1 matches. Aside from a 1-1 draw with RC Lens, the principality's club beat AS Saint-Étienne (1-0), OL (0-2) and AJ Auxerre (0-3). All of which has already put them on the podium of the French championship. The Monegasque players are full of confidence for the arrival of the Champions League. They were unlucky, however, to be drawn against FC Barcelona in their opening game.
FC Barcelona have already played 5 rounds of La Liga. And the Blaugrana have yet to hit a snag. They have won against Valencia CF (1-2), Athletic Bilbao (2-1), Rayo Vallecano (1-2), Real Valladolid (5-0) and Girona (1-4). Hansi Flick's men now lead the Spanish league by 4 points. Admittedly, the Catalan club lost the Trophée Gamper to AS Monaco this summer (0-3). But it won't be the same story in the Champions League!

For their Champions League debut, AS Monaco will have to do without the services of Radoslaw Majecki. Philipp Köhn has taken his place in the Monaco goal at the start of the season. And so far, he's been very solid. The Swiss keeper has conceded just one goal in the first 4 games of Ligue 1. Denis Zakaria has been impressive since the start of the season, and knows he'll have to pull out all the stops against Barcelona. Last but not least, Monaco can count on a number of top-quality attacking players, including Aleksandr Golovin, Takumi Minamino and Folarin Balogun.
Barcelona have a number of absentees. Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, Marc Bernal, Frenkie de Jong, Gavi and Ansu Fati will be absent. Dani Olmo, who was injured last weekend, will also be absent. However, Hansi Flick still has a top-quality squad. Pedri is playing in a string of matches and has already scored twice. Barça's forward line is also in fine form. Lamine Yamal (3 goals and 4 assists), Raphinha (3 goals and 3 assists) and Robert Lewandowski (4 goals and 2 assists) are likely to pose a few problems for Monaco's defense.
