It's a quarter-final with all the makings of a final in this Madrid Masters 1000, as Russian prodigy Mirra Andreeva takes on American Coco Gauff for a place in the last four in Spain.

With her titles in Dubai and especially Indian Wells this season, Mirra Andreeva has entered a new dimension, taking the opportunity to break into the WTA top 10. The Russian attacked the clay court with confidence, but perhaps also tired after last week in Stuttgart, where she didn't make it past the Round of 16. But the world No. 7 set the record straight in Madrid, outclassing her opponents Marie Bouzkova, Magdalena Frech and Yuliia Starodubtseva. Coco Gauff has warned herself that she'll need to put in a big performance to reach the last four of this Madrid Masters 1000. In a difficult season, the American is in search of a major result after a disappointing last few months for the world No. 4. After reaching the last 16 in Stuttgart a few days ago, Coco Gauff reassured herself in this tournament by dominating players within her reach such as Dayana Yastremska, Ann Li and Belinda Bencic. But the American has yet to beat a member of the top 10 in 2025, and to reach the semi-finals, she'll need to do just that.
