The Vancouver Whitecaps, unlike the other Canadian teams in MLS, are the team that shines and surprisingly leads the Eastern Conference, having scored an impressive 17 goals and only conceded 6.
The Whitecaps' success also carries over to the Concacaf Champions League, where they won the first leg of the semifinals against Messi and company's Inter Miami, leaving them on the brink of elimination.
They beat Inter Miami by playing well in front of a packed BC Place. The Whitecaps generally play very correct football, with a lot of pause to consider the best pass. Vite's assist for the first goal of the match during the week was exquisite, sending a cross to White, who simply headed it in. But the standout among the youngsters is fullback Edier Ocampo, who, at 21, was probably the best player on the field against Miami and against St. Louis in the last MLS match.
But Minnesota United, third in the same conference, will be the favorite to win it over the Whitecaps. The team coached by Welshman Ramsey Eric has gone eight games unbeaten. Perhaps they can capitalize on the fatigue of the Whitecaps, who will play just three days after their continental match.
