On Thursday, the New York Yankees kick off their 2025 MLB season against the Milwaukee Brewers at Yankee Stadium.

New York lost the service of All-Star outfielder Juan Soto to their inter-city rival, the New York Mets, in free agency. But the Bronx Bombers got right back up by signing starting pitcher Max Fried to an 8-year, $218 million deal and acquiring a pair of former National League MVPs such as Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt.
After another disappointing postseason, the Brewers restart their chase for an elusive World Series title. Milwaukee finished their Spring Training on a high note with a 4-2 win over the Colorado Rockies. Sal Frelick got the Brewers on the board with an RBI single in the first and third innings to set the tone, while 18-year-old Dominican prospect Jose Anderson delivered a two-run homer to break a 2-2 tie in the 7th inning.

Carlos Rodon will be starting for the Yankees on Opening Day. The lefty started in 32 games last season, posting a 3.96 ERA with 195 strikeouts. Rodon dazzled in his last face-off with the Brewers, giving up only one run with 8 strikeouts over six innings in a 15-3 blowout win by the Yankees. The Yankees may have lost an elite-level power hitter in Juan Soto, but they have significantly added depth in their rotation with the arrival of Goldschmidt and Bellinger. The Yankees are 3-7 in their last 10 meetings with the Brewers, though they destroyed them (15-3 on April 27 and 15-5 on April 28) in their last two games last season. The combined sheer talent in pitching and batting on the Yankees’ lineup and the eagerness to deliver a statement win in the opener make me confident that they will win in a big way on Thursday.
