The Miami Marlins (0-8 SU, 0-8 ATS) look to finally get off the canvas as they face the St. Louis Cardinals (4-4 SU, 6-2 ATS). The Marlins haven’t done anything positive this season, losing seven of eight games by at least two runs. Miami’s biggest problem is that they keep giving hitters free passes, as they Marlins’ pitchers lead the league in walks and have given up the third-most hits of anyone in baseball.
St. Louis has been free swinging a bit too often, striking out 83 times in its first eight games. But the Cardinals have gotten good bullpen pitching in the early going, an advantage that the Marlins do not have. Miami blew another lead on Friday to turn a 5-3 lead into an 8-5 loss, and St. Louis’ pitching staff allows it to survive early struggles.

Over their past six games, the Cardinals have gone 6-0 ATS, as their losses came by one run each on the road at Los Angeles and San Diego. When the Cardinals are the better team they put some distance between themselves and the opponent; when they’re the lesser team, they excel at hanging around.
Miami really seems to be lost at sea at the moment. The Marlins keep putting themselves into bad situations, and they haven’t exactly faced a tough schedule to lead off the season.
