The Miami Marlins (10-26 SU, 11-25 ATS) start a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers (23-13 SU, 18-18 ATS) that sees the return of Walker Buehler to the mound. Buehler hasn’t pitched since spring 2022, almost two full years away from the mound. He was one of the most feared pitchers in the game when healthy, but he hasn’t pitched at all since struggling through the first month of 2022.
So that makes him a wild card, and that makes this a tough play. The Marlins’ meager offense seems to be ideal for Buehler to make his comeback against, as Miami doesn’t get on base very often. At a .287 clip, only the White Sox are worse at getting on than the Marlins. Miami does tend to cash in when it gets people on, ranking a more reasonable 21st in runs scored, but as long as Buehler doesn’t give up cheap baserunners, he should be fine.

Our Miami Marlins vs Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction
Trusting Buehler in his first start back is far from a sure thing. But Los Angeles’ powerful lineup makes this a much easier lift. The Dodgers just swept the Atlanta Braves and won two of three from the Diamondbacks in Arizona, showing that they’re every bit as good as they’ve been in recent years. Even if Buehler isn’t the same pitcher he was in 2021, the Dodgers still have enough talent to bail him out.
Plus, odds are that Buehler at least resembles the pitcher he was in 2021. He’s now a two-time Tommy John pitcher, which isn’t ideal, but he’s shown enough mental fortitude in his career to get the benefit of the doubt against the Marlins. Miami’s lineup just isn’t powerful enough to really scare a team as talented as Los Angeles. Our prediction for Miami vs. Los Angeles is Dodgers -1.5.
