Novak Djokovic of Serbia opens his Mutua Madrid Open campaign against Matteo Arnaldi of Italy in Saturday’s second-round matchup at Manolo Santana Stadium.
Djokovic returns to action after bombing out in the second round of the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters. Chilean rising star caught the 24-time Grand Slam champion flat-footed in their second-round match in Monaco, scoring 6-3 6-4 upset over the Serbian. But with Carlos Alcaraz skipping this event due to injuries, Djokovic sees a wider road towards another title in Madrid.
Arnaldi arranged his first matchup with Djokovic after gutting out a 4-6 6-4 7-5 win over Borna Coric of Croatia in the first round. Arnaldi, who lost in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters and Barcelona Open, won 73 percent of his first serves and captured three breakpoints to pull off the comeback win.
