The season resumes this weekend in England! The Community Shield kicks off the new season. The winner of the last Premier League meets the winner of the FA Cup. Manchester City and Manchester United face off at 4pm this Saturday at Wembley in London. The Skyblues have revenge on their hands against the Red Devils. The latter beat their rivals in the last FA Cup final (1-2).
Can Manchester United beat the odds a second time in a row? The odds are still stacked against them in their first official match of the season. Manchester City will be doing everything in their power to win their first league title of the season. Especially as they have lost the last 3 finals in this competition. They will be aiming to get their hands on the trophy again in 2024.

Manchester City kick off the new season with the Community Shield! With just one week to go before their Premier League debut against Chelsea, the Mancunian club are looking to build up their confidence. They failed to do so during their summer preparations. Pep Guardiola's team lost their first 3 friendlies.
After defeats to Celtic Glasgow (3-4) and AC Milan (2-3), they fell to Barcelona on penalties. We had to wait until our last match against Chelsea to score our first win (4-2). Why not follow this up in London?
For their part, Manchester United have also alternated between the good and the not-so-good in their friendlies. The Red Devils beat Rangers FC (2-0) and Betis Sevilla (2-0). However, they lost to Rosenborg (1-0), Arsenal (2-1) and Liverpool (0-3).
The latest FA Cup winners are therefore not in the best of form for this first clash of the season. Although they beat Manchester City in the last FA Cup final (1-2), it won't be the same story this Saturday.

Manchester City & Manchester United Squad Analysis
Manchester City's summer transfer market has been rather quiet. Apart from the return of Joao Cancelo and Kalvin Phillips on loan, the Mancunian club has been able to secure the services of Savio. There are a few uncertainties in Pep Guardiola's squad ahead of this match. Ederson is a doubt, despite having been injured for several days. Kyle Walker, John Stones, Rodri and Phil Foden have yet to return to training, following the late end of their Euros.
The same goes for Julian Alvarez, who played in the Olympics and is expected to leave in the next few days. A number of key players were able to resume training this week, but are not expected to start in the starting eleven, including Ruben Dias, Bernado Silva and Kevin De Bruyne.
Manchester United will also have a few absentees for this derby. Leny Yoro, who was recruited during the summer transfer window, was injured during the summer training camp. He won't be back anytime soon. Rasmus Højlund will also be unavailable for the derby, as will Tyrell Malacia. Erik ten Hag will, however, be able to rely on his new recruit Joshua Zirzkee.
Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo were able to return after the Euros, but it's hard to imagine them starting directly in the starting XI. Victor Lindelöf and Harry Maguire remain doubtful for the clash with Manchester City.
