Coming off a devastating semifinal loss to Aryna Sabalenka at Indian Wells, Madison Keys of the United States will try to bounce back strong on Friday when she tackles Elene Avanesyan of Armenia in the second round of the 2025 Miami Open.

Keys followed up her Australian Open triumph early this year with a semifinal finish at the 2025 Indian Wells Open. Despite close call wins over Elise Mertens and Donna Vekic, the American walked into her second showdown this year with Aryna Sabalenka was confident she could repeat against the world’s No.1. After all, Keys had just posted a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately for Keys, she had no clue that Sabalenka was about to deal her arguably the most embarrassing losses of her career, a soul-crushing 6-0, 6-1 defeat. The loss ended Keys’ 16-match winning streak.

Avanesyan barely made it to the second round after hacking out 6-1 6-7(4) 6-4 win over Erika Andreeva, the elder sister of Mirra Andreeva. Avanesyan, who had two semifinal finishes this year at Merida and Hobart, captured nine break points and 49 return points to outlast her Russian foe.
