On Thursday evening, there's UEFA Europa League action at Parc Olympique Lyonnais, where Lyon and Man United will go head-to-head in the first leg of this quarter-final tie. It hasn't been anywhere near as bad domestically for the hosts as it has been for the visitors, but whether or not the 2024/25 campaign is deifned as successful or not will largely come down to achievements in this competition, which is absolutely true for the Red Devils too, so this is a huge game.
Having got the better of Lille in Ligue 1 last time out, the host arrive in solid form having wonsix of their last seven in all competitions, brushing aside FCSB in the previous UEL round. Ruben Amorim's men haven't been in amazing form in all competitions, while they continue to be inconsistent, but their best efforts have been saved for the Europa League. They too swatted away their opponents during the last round, beating Real Sociedad by four goals to one at Old Trafford, thanks largely to a superb effort from captain and talisman Bruno Fernandes. Lyon - Manchester United: Form Analysis
Lyon's path to this stage of the competition has been a rather simple one to follow. The French side avoided the play-off round by positioning themselves nicely in the top eight of the league-phase table, before thumping Romanian outfit FCSB, winning by three goals to one on the road, before finishing the job in resounding fashion at this venue, scoring four goals without reply. Thursday's hosts have also scored multiple goals in each of their last 11 games in all competitions. Such form bodes well ahead of a game against a United side that has struggled defensively at times.
The visitors do not come into this fixture in such hot scoring form, not at all. Not only did they fail to find the net at the weekend. delivering a rather weak offensive effort, but they also fired a blank at Nottingham Forest before that. Sure, they looked strong in the final third in that second leg against Sociedad, but that was at home. On the road, they've not been as prolific, failing to score in two of their last five.

Defender Duje Caleta-Car may continue to be sidelined for the hosts. The Croatian recently picked up a knock on international duty and has missed Lyon's last two games. He's not yet been fully ruled out of this one, though he's likely to be fit enough for the bench only, if at all. Ernest Nuamah was injured against Lille last time out, going off after just seven minutes. He will not feature here. Malick Fofana is another player to be out having recently gone off against Le Havre.
United's list of absentees is a little longer. Amad Diallo continues to nurse a knee injury, while Jonny Evans is out with a back problem. Lisandro Martinez is also sidelined, while there are doubts over the readiness of both Matthijs de Ligt and Kobbie Mainoo.
