Behind 34 first-serve points and four breakpoints, the American was able to stave off any significant rally from her Russian foe. Samsonova registered her second win in the tourney after outlasting Belinda Bencic of Switzerland 7-6(3) 4-6 6-4. Samsonova exhibited exceptional mental toughness as she secured a win despite squandering a 4-1 lead in the second set. Down 3-4 in the third, the Russian broke Bencic in the 8th and 10th games to hack out a gutsy victory.
