The betting odds placed the Cardinals as favorites over the Angels in all three games of the series, but the Angels already took Game 1, and this team, with some big-name reinforcements for 2025, has a 3-1 record to start the year.
However, of all the Angels' acquisitions, the most significant was Japanese pitcher Kikuchi, who was supposed to serve as the team's ace but didn't have luck in his debut in Chicago against the White Sox. Kikuchi pitched 6.0 IP, allowed 5 hits and 3 ER, and ended up taking the L. At least he remained consistent in what he does best, striking out batters and getting 5.
It will also be Sonny Gray's second start in his second straight season as the Cards' ace. Gray had a somewhat better line than Kikuchi, as he did win in his debut against the Twins, pitching 5 innings and allowing 2 ER.
Arenado, Nootbaar, and Donovan are expected to bat for the Cardinals again, and Trout, Ward, and Soler are expected to bat for the Angels.
