The Washington Nationals will try to continue their mastery of the Los Angeles Dodgers when the go head-to-head for the final time in this series at National Park on Wednesday.
The Nats have caught fire in the past few days, claiming two wins each from National League contenders Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers to improve their record to 5-6. After a bumpy start, Washington is starting to perform well at the plate, scoring almost six runs per game (5.9) over the last five games.
On the other hand, the Dodgers are facing their first test of the season, having lost their last three games and four of their last five assignments. Freddie Freeman is still on a 10-day injury list following a freak accident at the shower. Mookie Betts is averaging .316 while Teoscar Hernandez has already contributed 13 RBIs. Shohei Ohtani is batting .300 with four home runs and five RBIs, though the three-time MVP hasn’t made a big impact in the past five games.

Dodgers RHP Landon Knack will go against Nationals’ RHP Jake Ervin. Knack, who pitched for two innings in a 6-3 win vs. the Cubs, will make his first start this season. Ervin, meanwhile, has already given five earned runs in 10 total innings pitched. The Dodgers is a team you cannot allow to score early because they have so many weapons in their batting order who can lit up the scoreboards once they get into their groove. The Dodgers are sporting a 5.05 ERA over the last five games, which is uncharacteristic of a team with a loaded starting lineup and bullpen. However, I expect the Dodgers to bounce back in Game 3 with Knack providing five solid innings on the mound, setting up Ohtani and company for an explosive scoring night.
