As they so often do, California’s two American League teams, the Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics, meet up in a pre-Fourth of July pairing on Wednesday. Both have disappointed so far this season, with the Angels suffering from a post-Ohtani hangover. The Japanese phenom blitzed to the other side of the city to don the iconic Dodger blue color in the offseason, leaving his maiden MLB franchise to pick up the leftover pieces. Those pieces have amounted to just 36 wins to date this season, just a cut above their opponents this week. Oakland continues to be the laughingstock of the league at 30-56, keeping up their reputation as a ballclub with no money and no success to speak of. This season is their last in Oakland, however, with dreams of glory and gold in Sin City potentially being realized in two years with the building of a new stadium in Las Vegas. While they await the completion of their future home, they will play their games in 2025 in a small minor league stadium in Sacramento.
