The Los Angeles Angels (53-72 SU, 66-59 ATS) continue their series against the Kansas City Royals (70-55 SU, 70-55 ATS). After spending a few weeks playing to the level of their competition and showing up against big teams, the Angels appear to have abandoned that and now accept their fate as perhaps the worst in the AL West. Los Angeles was never expected to do well this season, but the Angels were at least supposed to be better than Oakland. Instead, the Athletics have punched above their weight, while the Angels have sunk as usual.
Kansas City continues to show it understands the assignment. The Royals have now won five in a row, and they have pulled to 2.5 games back of Cleveland for first place in the AL Central. The Royals have the toughest part of the schedule coming up when they finish facing the Angels, and they’ve got to give themselves the best chance to make a move.

Cole Ragans has stepped up nicely as the Royals’ games have taken on a greater importance. Last season, Ragans got traded out of the postseason when the Texas Rangers dealt him to Kansas City to bring in Aroldis Chapman. While the Royals crashed to a 56-win season, the Rangers won the World Series and Ragans had to watch his old team celebrate.
Outside of his most recent start against Toronto, Tyler Anderson has been one of the few bright spots for the Angels. But his offense just doesn’t produce what it needs when he’s on the mound. In his past five starts, the Angels have scored three runs or less on four occasions. Anderson has to be pretty near perfect to get a win, and sometimes he’s been close. But with the Angels fading badly, Anderson might only be good for unders in the first five innings the rest of the way. Our prediction for Los Angeles vs. Kansas City is Royals -1.5.
