Two promising stars on the WTA Tour will battle it out in the first round of the Wuhan Open, as Diana Shnaider of Russia takes on Leylah Fernandez of Canada on Monday. Shnaider will attempt to recover after a lackluster outing in the China Open, losing to Magdalena Frech 0-6 6-3 6-4 in the third round of the tourney. The Russian, who has now risen to world’s No.16, is out to win her fourth WTA title this year and first on hard court since ruling the Hua Hin Championships in February. Fernandez will try to end a four-match losing streak that began in the quarterfinal loss to Jessica Pegula at the Cincinnati Masters. Ranked No. 28 in the WTA World Rankings, Fernandez dropped her recent match against Peyton Stearns 7-5 6-2 in the second round of the China Open. Fernandez completed just 48 percent of her firsts serves and committed five double faults.
