Leylah Fernandez will go for her first grass-court tournament title on Saturday as the Fil-Canadian netter battles No.6 seed Daria Kasatkina in the women’s singles finals of the 2024 Eastbourne International. Fernandez survived a three-set thriller with Madison Keys 6-3 3-6 6-3 to reach her first career grass-court finals. The former US Open runner-up won 70 percent of points off the first serves and broke Keys four out of 10 times in the match. Fernandez had to go through Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic 6-2 3-6 6-2, Ashlyn Krueger of the United States 6-2 6-1, Harriet Dart of the United Kingdom 6-2 6-1, and Keys to book her ticket in the finals, where she will face the No.6 seed in the tournament, Daria Kasatkina. Like Fernandez, Kasatkina came from a tough three-set battle with Jasmine Paolini of Italy 3-6 7-5 6-3. In that game, the Russian broke her opponents’ serves five times and scored the important points late in the third set to put Paolini for good. Kasatkina defeated a pair of Chinese in the first two rounds. Xinyu Wang and Yue Yuan, before spoiling the Cinderella run of fan favorite Emma Raducanu 6-2 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
