Leylah Fernandez of Canada will go up against the Ashlyn Krueger of the United States in the third round of the 2025 Miami Open on Saturday.
Fernandez ended a three-match win streak with a 7-6(1) 6-3 win over Alycia Parks in the second round. After dropping both her opening match in Dubai and Qatar, the Canadian made sure she would not suffer another early-round collapse, keeping in control throughout by winning 81 percent of her serves and breaking four times. The former US Open runner-up is still in search for her first WTA 1000 level title.
Krueger came through with a massive upset over Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan 6-4 2-6 6-4 in the second round. Hot off a 6-3, 6-2 domination of Renata Zarazua, Krueger stormed to an opening set win before withstanding a comeback rally from the former Wimbledon Open rally, edging her in three sets. The win pushed Krueger’s 2025 WTA season slate to 14-8.
