Ugo Humbert is set to kick start his quest for a second ATP Tour title this year as he braces for a dangerous first-round joust with former US Open runner-up Kei Nishikori of Japan in the second round of the 2025 Indian Wells Open. Humbert have started his 2025 ATP season campaign with a 10-3 record, reaching the fourth round of the 2025 Australian Open and ruling the Open 13 tournament in Marseille. The Frenchman also carried a six-match win streak into the Dubai Tennis Championship, where he fell to Tallon Griekspoor 4-6 6-3 6-2. Nishikori is no longer the nightmare matchup he was in every hardcourt tournament many years ago. Despite his gradual decline, the former Japan’s No.1 can still produce random vintage performances that catch younger foes by surprise. Nishikori, who won his first four matches of 2025 to make an unexpected championship appearance at the 2025 Hong Kong Open, improved to 7-5 in the season after besting Jaume Antoni Munar Clar of Spain 6-2 5-7 7-6(3) in the first round.
