Elena Rybakina will try to guide Kazakhstan to a 2-0 start at the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers on Friday when they take on Colombia in Day 2 of competition in Brisbane, Australia.
Rybakina and Yulia Putintseva proved too strong for their respective singles opponents from the Australian side as the both WTA top-25 players cruised to straight-set wins. Rybakina defeated Kimberly Birrell 6-3, 7-6 (4) while Putintseva routed Maya Joint 6-2, 6-1. The Aussie double pair of Storm Hunter and Ellen Perez gave Australia something to build on after besting Anna Danilina and Zhebek Kulambayeva in the doubles match.
As for Colombia, they will be competing in the play-offs of the Billie Jean King Cup for the first time since 2003. Colombia is consists of Yuliana Lizarazo, Paulina Perez, Valentina Mediorreal, Yuliana Monroy with Alejandro Gonzalez serving as the team captain.
