Pegula reached the quarterfinal of the 2025 Qatar Open and then lost in the third round of the 2025 Dubai Tennis Championship. Despite the shortcomings, Pegula remains at No.4 in the world in the latest update in the WTA world rankings. Rus has lost her last five matches. The latest setback came against Mayoka Uchijima of Japan 6-4 6-2 in the qualifier of the 2025 Dubai Duty Free Championship. Still inside the WTA Tour top 100, Rus direly needs a win that will spark her sagging career. Surprisingly, Rus is coming into his fourth showdown with Pegula carrying a 2-1 head-to-head series lead on the American.
