Jelena Ostapenko resumes her clay court campaign on Tuesday when she battles Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine in the first round of the 2025 Stuttgart Open.
Things have gone downhill for Ostapenko since reaching the final of the 2025 Qatar Open. Latvia’s No.1 women’s singles player has lost five of her last six matches, including opening losses at Indian Wells and Miami Open. She temporarily stopped the bleeding with a 7-5 6-2 victory over American qualifier Louisa Chirico in the first round at Charleton but lost again the next round to Danielle Rose Collins 7-5 6-3.
Yastremska punched her ticket to the main draw of the Stuttgart Open with a clinical 6-3 6-4 win over Ella Seidel of Germany. The Ukrainian hasn’t had much success since losing to Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-2 3-6 7-5 at the 2025 Upper Austria Ladies Linz in early February. Still, she’s expected to do well in tournaments over the next four to five weeks since she has a high clay court win rate (63.5 percent).
