On Thursday, likely in the early afternoon for most US viewers, there's an interesting clash at the event in Indian Wells, officially known as BNP Paribas Open, between Jan-Lennard Struff and Gael Monfils. This is a tussle between Germany and France, and it's historically one that has gone the way of the French player, who will surely be confident of extending his already pleasing record against his opponent. 

An interesting and often exciting player, Jan-Lennard Struff typically thrives under very specific conditions. He can be great when the court plays to his powerful serve, while he's the sort of guy who can bully some certain players, but struggle massively against other certain players. Monfils is a player he struggles against, that's for sure. The German also turns up here out of form having lost each of his last three matches in straight sets. 

Gael Monfils, who is enjoying the twilight of his career at 38, also arrives off the back of a loss last time out, but that was his first match since a decent run at the Aussie Open, so we shouldn't be too quick to judge him negatively. After all, he has a great record against Struff, who does struggle mentally to overcome tests of this nature.
