Brazilian wonderkid Joao Fonseca opens his Indian Wells Open campaign against Jacob Fearnley of Great Britain on Thursday. Fonseca had mixed results from his South American clay-court campaign in late February, rattling off five consecutive victories to rule the Argentina Open before crashing out in the first round of the next tournament at Rio Open. Still, the Brazilian teenager is coming into the fray at Indian Wells a more seasoned player after having already experienced winning on the ATP Tour. Fearnley reached the quarterfinal of the Pau Challenger, weeks after barging into the third round of the Australian Open. The 23-year-old Brit is trying to crack into the top-50 of the ATP Tour, but making it to that level requires strong results in the big tournaments he will be competing throughout the season.
