Alex De Minaur of Australia will battle Jacob Fearnley of Great Britain for a place in the quarterfinal of the 2025 Barcelona Open on Thursday at Pista Rafa Nadal.
De Minaur entered the competition looking to build on his semifinal stint at the Monte Carlo Masters a week ago. The Australian is enjoying a terrific season with a 20-7 record, though he’s still looking for his first title on the ATP Tour in 2025. De Minaur barged into the second round with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina.
Fearnley also made it to the second round with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Roberto Carballes Baena in the first round. The Brit had lost to Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia in the final qualifying match 7-5 6-4 but he made the most of his lucky loser entry by beating a solid veteran like Baena.

Our Jacob Fearnley vs Alex De Minaur Prediction
I expect a dominant win from Alex De Minaur in this round-of-16 matchup with Fearnley. The Brit is a solid player with a solid 76.3 percent win rate, but he needs a massive step up in his game to beat an elite opponent like De Minaur, who is fresh off a semifinal stint in Monaco. Moreover, Fearnley has played all three of his clay-court matches on the pro level at the Barcelona Open. He should feel lucky to have reached this tournament stage despite this being his debut tourney on the red dirt. Our betting prediction for Jacob Fearnley vs. Alex De Minaur: Alex De Minaur will cover -5.5 games.
