Jack Draper vs Carlos Alcaraz Prediction & Picks - ATP Indian Wells
by Lou Aguila | in ATP Indian Wells Picks
Carlos Alcaraz seeks a return trip to the final of the 2025 Indian Wells Open. He is gearing up for a competitive semifinal battle with British rising star Jack Draper on Friday.
Alcaraz booked his ticket to the semifinal of the 2025 Indian Wells Open with a gutsy 6-3 7-6(4) win over Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina. After dismantling his first three opponents in the tourney, Alcaraz got his first acid test against Cerundolo, who had upset Alex De Minaur of Australia 7-5 6-3 in the previous round. The Argentine accomplished what the first three players who faced Alcaraz failed to do, and that was to take the reigning world’s No.3 into a tiebreaker. Cerundolo only converted one of 9 breakpoint chances, but he gave Alcaraz a lot of trouble with his serves, earning 38 points on his first serves while giving up only two service breaks. Just when it all seemed a third set was inevitable after Cerundolo surged to a 4-1 lead in the second frame, Alcaraz elevated his play to another gear as he captured three consecutive games to tie the score at 4-4 and thereafter held his next three serves to bag the win.
Draper also advanced to his second straight semifinals after taming the big-serving Ben Shelton 6-4 7-5. Draper has kept on punishing opponents with his blistering serves. Against Shelton, the Brit landed 74 percent of his first serves, winning 33 points or 67 percent first-serve conversion rate. Shelton’s power game had little to no effect against Draper, who even managed to capture three service breaks against the American behind excellent anticipation and counterpunching. The victory sent Draper to the semifinal round of the Indian Wells Open, where he will get a chance to spoil Alcaraz’s bid to join Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as the only players to win the tournament for three consecutive years.

Jack Draper - Carlos Alcaraz: Form Analysis
Carlos Alcaraz’s dominant run at the 2025 Indian Wells Open can be attributed to his versatility and ability to adapt to any playing conditions quickly. This year, the Indian Wells Open has introduced new courts that make tennis balls upon contact bouncier than ever.
Alcaraz admitted initially that he had had a tough time figuring out how to play around the new superfast courts during practice session, but then assured that he would adapt to it in no time.
True enough, Alcaraz has familiarized himself well with the new courts, and he has been near unstoppable in the tournament, demolishing the likes of Quentin Halys, Denis Shapovalov, and Grigor Dimitrov and fending off Cerundolo.
Draper is another player who has flourished on Indian Wells's new courts. His big serves and sharp forehands have become harder to return because of how fast the ball bounces off the court. Draper has also proven that his defense is solid enough to neutralize fellow power-servers such as Shelton and Taylor Fritz.

Our Jack Draper vs Carlos Alcaraz Prediction
Jack Draper is a tough cookie to beat, but I am going with Alcaraz in this one. Yes, Alcaraz tends to be vulnerable at times. I am aware that he did lose to a limping Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinal of the Australian Open and choked against Jiri Lehecka in the quarterfinal at the Qatar Open. And yet, I am here, a staunch believer that Alcaraz will win this tournament for the third straight year. Draper is a terrific player and poised to make a lot of noise in big tournaments over the coming year. However, he’s still not on the same level as Alcaraz, a four-time Grand Slam winner. The only man who can beat Alcaraz in tournaments as prestigious as the Indian Wells Open is currently serving a three-month suspension and isn’t expected to play until the French Open. Without Jannik Sinner, it’s clear from the start that Alcaraz is the man to beat. Draper will learn a hard lesson on Friday: beating Alcaraz in one of his pet tournaments is easier said than done. Our betting prediction for Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jack Draper: Alcaraz will win.
Jack Draper vs Carlos Alcaraz - Other Interesting Picks
Carlos Alcaraz will win first set
To win this semifinal match, Carlos Alcaraz has to seize the first set to gain a psychological advantage over Draper and set the tone for the entire match. Capturing the first set is crucial because Alcaraz can’t let Draper gain confidence and see it snowball all over his face. The Spaniard has always been a fast starter. In fact, he never lost the first set in all of his 11 wins this year. Our betting prediction for Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jack Draper: Alcaraz will win first set.
Carlos Alcaraz will win 2-0.
In their head-to-head series, Alcaraz is 3-1 vs. Draper, and all three wins happened on hard court. Meanwhile, Draper’s only win vs. Alcaraz occurred at the 2024 Cinch Open, a pre-Wimbledon Open grass-court tournament in London. The new courts at Indian Wells give Draper a slight advantage, being the player with bigger serves. Still, Alcaraz is easily one of the most versatile players in the game's history. His ability to adapt to any playing conditions and opponent’s style of play on a whim and devise a contingency plan when things don’t work out make him arguably the toughest player to beat on the ATP Tour. While Draper will present a much better fight than Cerundolo, in the end, there’s still no stopping Alcaraz from moving one win closer to making Indian Wells history. Our betting prediction for Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jack Draper: Carlos Alcaraz will win 2-0.
