One of the more high-profile fixtures taking place on the opening weekend of the 2025 Major League Soccer season sees New York City FC take on Inter Miami at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where each team will be hoping to pick up a positive result having both fallen short in the 2024 playoffs.
For the hosts, this season is all about delivering the goods in the regular season, as they did last time around, but also pushing further into playoffs. We all knew that this Inter Miami team would do serious damage last season and they certainly did by topping the pile in the Eastern Conference, but they folded rather tamely once we entered the playoffs, which was disappointing. They'll likely dominate the east again, but can that domination extend to a serious assault on the postseason? We'll find out.
For the NYCFC boys, it's a case of delivering the same again. They performed solidly during the regular season, while they gave the playoffs a decent go, going further than Saturday's hosts anyway. Maybe they'll begin this campaign by upsetting the big boys of Major League Soccer.

For NYCFC, the friendly action has largely gone well, with the visitors coming into this game off the back of a win against Minnesota last weekend, though they were beaten on the road against St. Louis before that.
