In June 2023, Slovakia and Portugal were respectively beaten 1-2 and 0-1 (Ronaldo's 89th-minute goal) in Reykjavik. This is the tough task awaiting Wales on Matchday 3 of the Nations League group stage.
Iceland, 3rd, 1 point behind Turkey and Wales, must try something against the Welsh if they are to win. The Icelandic national team has been at the top of its game on home soil in recent years, putting in fine performances against Bosnia-Herzegovina (1-0), Luxembourg (1-1) and Liechtenstein (4-0) in the Euro qualifiers and Montenegro (2-0) in the Nations League. Having lost in Turkey (3-1) on the 2nd and final day, Iceland must now bounce back.
Wales are co-leaders with Turkey after 2 fine results against the same Turkey (0-0) at Cardiff City Stadium and then Montenegro (1-2). Leading quickly from the 3rd minute (0-2), the Welsh had to make do and were stressed at the very end of the match as Camaj reduced the score (1-2) in the 73rd minute and the home team pushed hard but failed to equalize. The win was a welcome boost for Wales, who had gone 4 matches without a win (2 draws and 2 defeats) in all competitions.
