Marcos Giron looks to continue his giant-slaying spree as he takes on No.5 seed Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinal stage of the 2024 Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, Germany. Giron, who defeated Andray Rublev and Mateo Berrettini in back-to-back matches, seeks to secure his first career title in the ATP Tour. The 30-year-old American played terrific in his round-of-16 match with Berrettini, winning 84 percent of the first serves and two break points to grind out a come-from-behind three-set win over the Italian, 3-6 6-4 6-3. Meanwhile, Hurkacz also faced a spirited challenge from Australia’s James Duckworth in their second-round clash. The Polish scored 17 aces and an astounding 93 percent of the first serves to overcome Duckworth. Hurkacz, a former Wimbledon Open semifinalist, is one of few remaining contenders, along with Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner, who survived the first two rounds. Hurkacz and Giron will meet for the second time ever. The Polish won their first head-to-head match 6-3 6-2 6-4 in round no.2 of the 2021 Wimbledon Open.
